Festival of Aegean Taste & Tradition
As the title of the institution testifies, it is a major celebration full of taste and tradition. It all started in 2007, in an effort to promote the gastronomic culture in the wider region, with local producers presenting their products and housewives preparing homemade food delicacies.
At the beginning there were only a few islands as participants and now, they are almost dozens. Today, it has been established as the most important cultural festival on the holy island of the Apocalypse and is held during the last weekend of June. It is under the auspices of the Holy Monastery and is organized by the newspaper «Patmiaka Chronika» (www.patmostimes.gr) in cooperation with the Municipality of Patmos and the Region of the South Aegean. «Apocalypsis» restaurant, starting from the first day of its operation, has been a permanent and ardent supporter of the festival.
Generally, the festival not only promotes Dodecanese cuisine but also the genuine Greek hospitality. It is a vivid link between dozens of isolated islands, while creating solidarity relations. It provides visitors with the opportunity to experience the gastronomic culture of the island and gives locals a chance to connect with their roots, customs and traditions.
